UFC 202 PPV buys could reach 1.5 million for Diaz vs McGregor 2

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White may be having second thoughts about waiting on that rubber match between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, now that UFC 202 is on track to break the top three most successful pay-per-view (PPV) events of all time.

Estimates are ranging from 1.2 million to 1.5 million buys, according to Dave Meltzer at MMA Fighting.

Not surprisingly, their first go-round at UFC 196 is also at the top of the charts, second only to the Brock Lesnar-led UFC 100 PPV back in 2009. Diaz won their first fight with a second-round submission, but fell by way of majority decision after they ran it back last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada (replay).

A trilogy, at this point, seems more like a matter of when, as opposed to if.

In the UFC 202 co-main event, Anthony Johnson cemented his place as the next light heavyweight title contender by smashing and trashing Glover Teixeira (see it), though I’m not sure how much that bout influenced PPV buys, as neither fighter did much to escape the headlining shadow.
