Undefeated mixed martial arts (MMA) Welterweight prospect, Mike Perry, got called up to the big leagues for a short-notice replacement fight tonight (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) against five-fight Octagon veteran, Hyun Gyu Lim, on the UFC 202 pay-per-view (PPV) main card inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Talk about a pressure situation, which the 24-year-old handled with relative ease en route to an unlikely first round finish.

Perry came out aggressive, looking to land a big shot on Lim, who at 6’3″ towered over his opponent. Perry could not get too close early because of the size so, instead, he blasted Lim’s lead leg with thundering kicks. Lim connected on a nice combination, but he didn’t expect Perry to return fire, ducking under a cross and clothes-lining him to the mat. Perry was able to trap Lim in a crucifix position on the floor and land significant ground and pound. Lim was able to get back to his feet and land a nice shot, but Perry dropped him again with a huge bomb. Perry smothered him on the ground again, but he let Lim get back to his feet so he could drop him again. And that’s exactly what he did, drilling him with a monster left hook that face-planted Lim. Perry got in a few extra head bouncers before referee John McCarthy stepped into stop it less than four minutes into the first round.

Wow, talk about making an incredible first impression. And to do it on such short notice — against a savvy veteran — is definitely a statement performance. Welcome to UFC, Mike Perry. See you soon.
