UFC 202 results recap: What’s next for Conor McGregor after avenging Nate Diaz loss last night?

After five rounds of bloody action, Conor McGregor got some much-desired revenge on Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 — which went down last night (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (watch full video highlights here). It was an entertaining bout to say the least, as both combatants had their shining moments, with McGregor ultimately earning a super close majority decision after opening up Diaz’s face thanks to his striking prowess. What was perhaps even more impressive was the fact that Diaz proved he can take a licking and keep on ticking.

So where does “Notorious” go from here?

Talks of a trilogy fight were quickly brought up by McGregor and Diaz, who both took the opportunity to express their interest in a third (and likely final) fight during their post-fight speeches. For Diaz, he feels he’s deserving since he granted the Irishman that same chance when he choked him out at UFC 196 earlier this year.

As for McGreogr, he’s all for it, too; however, he wants the third and perhaps final fight to take place at 155 pounds, which shouldn’t be a problem for Diaz, since he’s been competing in that weight class for the majority of his career. But, the third fight will likely have to take a backseat for a while, as McGregor has to stop holding the Featherweight division hostage and defend his belt in a title unification match against Jose Aldo, who currently holds the interim 145-pound strap.

Sure, there are $5 million reasons for McGregor and Diaz to run it back again, but, I just don’t see it happening for a while. Even UFC president Dana White stated that Conor has to go down to defend his strap or flat out give it up.
