community news, UFC 202’s Donald Cerrone wants to ‘beat Eddie Alvarez’s ass again in New York City

Donald Cerrone spoiled Eddie Alvarez’s Octagon debut by out-striking him and eventually out scoring him on the judges’ scorecards to earn a unanimous decision win over him at UFC 178 back in 2014.

Since then, their careers have taken drastically different paths.

Alvarez is now the Lightweight champion of the world and “Cowboy” is currently trying his luck at Welterweight after failing to win the 155-pound strap in his first-ever UFC title fight against ex-title holder, Rafael dos Anjos. Still, Cerrone tells FOX Sports that after he takes out Rick Story at UFC 202 this weekend (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nevada, he intends to call out Alvarez for a championship fight at UFC 205 this November in New York City.

“Eddie Alvarez is a fight I’m definitely (interested in). After I beat Rick Story, I’m going to call him out and try to get that Eddie/”Cowboy” 2 in New York. Hell yeah, Madison Square Garden, how cool would that be to fight in? Hell yeah, I’d love it. I’ll beat his ass again and take the belt.”

Cerrone echoed those sentiments on a recent edition of “UFC Tonight,” much to the chagrin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is currently the favorite to face Alvarez first. However, “The Eagle” hasn’t had any luck with trying to get the bout finalized.

Currently, there is only one fight lined up for UFC 205, as Rashad Evans will make his Middleweight debut against Tim Kennedy at Madison Square Garden (details here). And since Ronda Rousey won’t be making her return to the cage by then, adding a 155-pound championship clash to the card isn’t a bad idea.

Whether or not it’s “Cowboy” vying for the strap again remains to be seen.
