Dan Henderson has already stated that win, lose, or draw, his upcoming middleweight title fight against division champion Michael Bisping — which is pegged for UFC 204 on Oct. 8, 2016 in Manchester, England — will be the final one of his illustrious mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

Which means should he win the 185-pound strap to add to his mantle of world titles — which includes championships in PRIDE FC and Strikeforce — he won’t stick around not even once to defend it. It’s a tidbit Henderson recently told The MMA Hour that UFC officials are very aware of.

His words:

“No. Why (would I stick around to fight again)? It’s pretty much the last goal that I had set for myself. A couple of years ago I lost a couple of times here and there and I wasn’t having the best of luck. I kind of figured I wouldn’t have that opportunity again. I was still satisfied with what I’ve done with my career and satisfied with myself with not having the UFC belt. But it is the last one that I don’t have. I am sure that I’m going to miss the competition. But you have to understand that I’ve been competing my whole life and I’ve been on top more than once and kept fighting. It will be nice to have this opportunity to finish in that way.”

That means the promotion will then have to find two suitable contenders to vie for the vacant title if Henderson proves victorious.

It’s not like they’ll be short on volunteers.
