There’s being confident, like “Mystic Mac,” and then there’s being realistic.
For Gegard Mousasi, it’s a mixture of all three of those components ahead of his long-awaited middleweight bout against Vitor Belfort, which is set to go down at UFC 204 this weekend (Sat., Oct. 8, 2016) in Manchester, England.
To hear Gegard’s prediction for the outcome of his collision with “The Phenom” is pretty clear… sort of.
During his appearance on The MMA Hour, Gegard says he “almost guarantees” victory over the fearsome striker, barring he doesn’t get caught with one of Vitor’s early onslaughts. That said, he plans to take him out in the opening frame.
“He’s dangerous because he goes for it with his kicks, first couple of minutes he’s dangerous. With Weidman he was dangerous in the beginning so you can’t underestimate him. I feel like I am better in the standup, ground, physical, age, you name it, I am better. But if you are not careful you can always walk into a punch or a kick. Obviously, we have to be careful of that, but, besides that, it is almost guaranteed. Victory is almost guaranteed.”
A longtime opposer of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), Gegard say he has no qualms in fighting Belfort — who has had his issues with PEDs in the past — since United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) seems to be on top of things lately.
And the fact that the bout will be a “clean fight” (sorry Joe) is what gives “Dreamcatcher” the utmost confidence that Belfort will be no match for him in Manchester.
Time will tell.
