Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight finishers Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey clashed last night (Dec. 30, 2016) at UFC 207 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nunes may have been pushed to the side in promotional efforts, but “The Lioness” held her title for a reason. Having won her last four bouts, including a trio of finishes, Nunes’ had little intention of laying down and giving Rousey her strap. It’s fair to be critical of Rousey’s anti-media decisions over the past year. However, there’s no doubt that “Rowdy” came to fight last night. The former champion was in fantastic shape and was more than motivated to reclaim the crown.

Nunes came out fast and landed hard punches. Rousey was in trouble almost immediately, and the Brazilian poured on the punches. Rousey alternated between stumbling around helpless and attempting to fall into the clinch, but Nunes kept her distance and dropped bombs.

In less than one minute, it was over.

There’s quite literally nothing to break down here. Nunes was the longer and quicker puncher, and she bashed Rousey’s face in quickly with a constant stream of jabs and right hands. Rousey was unable to adjust defensively, and Nunes landed just about every punch that she threw.

Against a puncher like Nunes, that’s not an option.

As I mentioned in my breakdown and video, Nunes is a pretty simple striker. She fires hard jabs and right hands, and it generally works quite well for her. It was certainly enough to brutally knock out the former champion and earn the most high-profile win of her career.

Wow.

As for Rousey, she actually opened this bout with some patience rather than trying to rush in. That may sound smart, but it’s actually a pretty terrible decision. Rousey’s boxing defense at range is pretty awful, and her rush forward actually helps hide that.

Instead, she stood tall at range with her stuck still. Shockingly, that did not work well, as Rousey was battered to a quick finish.

It doesn’t seem like a bold prediction to say that will be the last time we see Rousey inside the Octagon.

At UFC 207, Amanda Nunes absolutely mauled Ronda Rousey inside a minute. Who should the Brazilian face next?
