Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will step out of the comfort of the Fox Sports studio to join Joe Rogan and Jon Anik in a three-man commentating booth for the upcoming UFC 209 pay-per-view (PPV) event on March 4, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After Mike Goldberg was relieved of his duties following UFC 207 (more on that here), the promotion promised a “dream team” in the coming year, though no long-term replacement for “Goldie” has been revealed.
Instead, UFC has gone with a three-man team for its PPV events thus far, going with a trio consisting of Daniel Cormier, Anik and Rogan for UFC 208, which went down a few weeks ago in Brooklyn, New York.
The promotion also hired former WWE play-by-play man and ESPN personality Todd Grishham to take care of commentating duties for certain events — such as last weekend’s (Sun., Feb. 19, 2017) UFC Fight Night event on Fox Sports 1 — as well as duties on the FOX Sports 1 desk.
UFC 209 will feature a Welterweight championship rematch between division champion Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson, as well as an interim Lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. Plus, Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem will throw down in what is sure to be a hard-hitting Heavyweight affair.
