Before Junior dos Santos fights Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title, watch JDS demolish Gabriel Gonzaga back in 2010.
We’re going way back for today’s UFC free fight video. I’m talking the days when the UFC was airing a handful of shows on Versus (now known as NBC Sports Network). The very first UFC on Versus card was held on March 21st, 2010, with Jon Jones caving Brandon Vera’s face in with elbows in the main event.
In the co-main, Junior dos Santos was given a big matchup with former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga. JDS had come off a knockout of Gilbert Yvel, while Gonzaga had TKO’d Chris Tuchscherer (and destroyed poor Chris’ testicles) on the UFC 102 prelims. Dos Santos had little trouble with Gonzaga, flooring him with a left hook before rendering him unconscious with ground-and-pound. You can watch the video at the top of the page.
Here’s Brent Brookhouse’s play-by-play:
Junior dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga – Round 1– Feeling out early. Low kick lands hard for Gonzaga and he almost gets a takedown. Low kick by Gonzaga again and a short hook by Junior. Dos Santos opening up a little more with a punch to the body. Head kick by Gonzaga misses high. Junior with one of his own. Right hand by Gonzaga lands over the top. Glancing right by Dos Santos. High kick by Gonzaga is blocked. Punch by Dos Santos knocks him down. Gonzaga defends, but a flurry of punches by Junior and it’s over as Gonzaga is out cold. Junior Dos Santos wins by KO, round 1.
UFC 211: Miocic vs. dos Santos 2 takes place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, May 13th.
