Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, looked to defend his 265-pound title, as well as exact revenge, when he collided with Junior dos Santos tonight (Sat., May 13, 2017) inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Miocic and dos Santos first locked horns at UFC on FOX 13 in late 2014, with “Cigano” taking a split decision win.
The second verse was nothing like the first.
Both fighters traded leg kicks to start the action, looking to feel out each other and gauge distance. Miocic tried to corner dos Santos and nail him with a combination, but “Cigano” was able to circle out of danger. Moments later, though, he clipped dos Santos along the cage, wobbling the big man, but he seemed like he still had his wits about him. Miocic took a step back and measured up dos Santos and then drilled him with an overhand right as he tried to back away along the cage. dos Santos dropped to his knees and turtled up as Miocic dove on to of him with punches in bunches until referee Herb Dean was finally forced to intervene little more than two minutes into the opening round. It was an awesome finish — Miocic had a plan to attack dos Santos early with big shots and he executed it to perfection. And still!
