UFC 211’s Stipe Miocic: ‘Keep doubting me’ and ‘I’m going to keep shutting you up’

, / 29 0

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will look to defend his title for a record-tying second consecutive time later tonight (Sat., May 13, 2017) at UFC 211 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, when he takes on Junior dos Santos. As the leader of the most volatile division in the sport, Miocic is constantly trying to prove himself as a champion who can stay king. Not one UFC heavyweight fighter has ever defended the title more than twice, but the Ohio native enjoys showing up his biggest critics as he aims to break history.

“Keep doubting me, please. I love it. I’m going to keep shutting you up,” Miocic told FOX Sports earlier this week.

“Just keep telling me that I’m not good and I’m not going to win and I’ll keep shutting you up.”

Miocic will not only have to silence his doubters later this evening at UFC 211, but he’ll have to defeat a fighter who he already lost to. But just because JDS got the best of Miocic back in 2014 via decision doesn’t mean the rematch will go down the same way.

“I’m at where I’m at because of that fight. I want to thank him for that fight,” Miocic said. “Because that’s where I’m at today because of him. I put myself in that position. He’s an animal. He’s a former champ and he’s going to stay a former champ because I’m going to stay champ. Fighting him changed everything. I made a comment to my coach actually that night, I said if we fought tomorrow, I’d beat him. Because I knew what I did wrong and I knew what I had to do.

“Things changed. Come see May 13, see what happens.”

If Miocic is going to keep his title beyond tonight, he’ll have to get past one of the most prolific knockout artists in UFC heavyweight history. will deliver LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire UFC 211 fight card, starting with the Fight Pass “Prelims” matches online, which are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET, then the remaining undercard balance on FX at 8 p.m. ET, before the PPV main card start time at 10 p.m. ET.
