Max Holloway silenced the crowd in attendance by scoring a TKO finish against Jose Aldo to become the undisputed featherweight champion.
Max Holloway has been hungry for UFC gold since he put on his lengthy win streak in 2014. On Saturday night, he was able to establish himself as a champion by stopping Jose Aldo in front of an opposing Brazilian crowd, winning the undisputed 145-pound title in the process.
What was the highlight of the fight?
It is always fun to see a boxing-dominant fight in MMA, and these two fighters did not disappoint. Holloway did have a slow start, as he was slightly bested in the first round, but it did not take long for him to get into his rhythm and land shots of his own.
If you are an Aldo fan, that last few moments of him taking a beating was indeed painful to watch, but if you are rooting for Holloway, it was an excellent showing against one of the best featherweight fighters in the game.
Where do these two go from here?
It would be great to see Holloway face Frankie Edgar next. “The Answer” has paid his dues, and does deserve a crack at a second world title.
Jose Aldo has done enough to establish a solid legacy as an elite 145-pounder. One logical move for him to make next would be to gun for a rematch against Conor McGregor, most likely at lightweight. His camp did say that they do have a plan to make the fight happen, anyway.
Watch now, later, or never?
It was an action-packed fight from start to finish, which is always a must-watch.
