Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) titleholder Vitor Belfort is making his final appearance inside the Octagon when he throws hands opposite fellow longtime veteran Nate Marquardt at the upcoming UFC 212: “Aldo vs. Holloway” pay-per-view (PPV) event inside HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
More on how that came to be right here.
The Brazilian made a big push to finish out his storied career in his native Brazil (see those comments here), which makes it a little unusual that he packed his bags and moved up to Tristar gym in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but I guess winning is still more important than nationalism.
MMA Junkie confirmed that change in camps on Monday, also indicating that Firas Zahabi — best known for his work with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre — would be in “The Phenom’s” corner.
Belfort (25-13, 1 NC) needs all the help he can get, going down in flames in four of his last five. While his most recent shellacking was overturned (because of this), I think we can all agree the Brazilian has not looked competitive in many moons.
Will Zahabi and Co. make a difference? We’ll find out in less than a month.
