After a whirlwind relationship with the UFC, Cris Cyborg is now the company’s women’s featherweight champion.
Everyone pretty much expected an easy win for Cris Cyborg in the first title fight of UFC 214. While she did emerge victorious to bag the vacant women’s 145-pound title, it took tough three rounds to finish Invicta bantamweight champion, Tonya Evinger.
What was the high point of the fight?
Evinger stepped up to the challenge to face the woman considered to be the fiercest in the game today. She proved herself to be a worthy challenger, holding her own against Cyborg’s onslaught through all three rounds.
But her toughness had its limits, and it was only a matter of time before Cyborg found the opening to finish the fight in the third round.
Where to these two go from here?
Props to Evinger for taking this fight, but she would definitely need to get back to the drawing board to even be in the conversation for the next title fight.
On the other hand, it would be interesting to see who would next be matched up against Cyborg, now that she finally holds the title. If she successfully re-signs with the UFC, perhaps they could make the supposed Megan Anderson fight, next.
Watch it now, later or never?
If you are one of the many who expected an instant, dominant finish courtesy of Cyborg, you will not be disappointed in this prolonged beating, either. Watch it now and enjoy.
