The UFC’s bantamweight strap was on the line in the UFC 215 main event, as Amanda Nunes picked up a split decision to defend her throne from Valentina Shevchenko. Nunes pressed forward behind a probing jab, and leg kicks, as Shevchenko looked for counter strikes. Shevchenko was the busier fighter in the second round, throwing volume while Nunes was left spectating a bit. Nunes pressed forward in the third round, landing kicks to the leg and body. Shevchenko came alive in the fourth, but gave up the takedown late in the 5th, and ultimately, it was Nunes who earned the split nod.

Rd.5- Nunes lands a 1-2, and Shevchenko is right there to land a combo of her own. Shevchenko attacks both sides of Nunes’ leg once again. Nunes lands an oblique kick, as Shevchenko lands the left cross. Nunes closes the distance and shoves Shevchenko up against the cage. Nunes drops down for the double leg, but Shevchenko defends well and finds open space. Shevchenko goes for a head and arm throw, but Nunes slips out, and takes the back. Shevchenko goes 2 on 1, and works her way to her feet, but gets taken down once again with a minute left on the clock. Shevchenko lands some strikes from her back, but Nunes is unfazed, and finishes the final round on top. 10-9 Nunes
