Another successful title defense, another fight night bonus for Demetrious Johnson.
The reigning flyweight champion dominated challenger Ray Borg on Saturday in the co-main event of UFC 216 in Las Vegas before finishing him with a spectacular fifth-round armbar that not only earned him the record for the most consecutive title defenses in UFC history with 11, but a cool $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus as well.
This is the eighth fight night bonus awarded to Johnson, the most by any fighter in his division.
Also cashing in was veteran flyweight John Moraga, who needed just 98 seconds to put away highly touted prospect Magomed Bibulatov with strikes. It was the first performance award for Moraga since he submitted Chris Cariaso back in December 2012.
The Fight of the Night bonus was given to a preliminary lightweight bout between Lando Vannata and Bobby Green. Their thrilling three-round striking affair ended in a split draw, but both men should be happy with the extra cash they received for their efforts.
Vannata is no stranger to Fight of the Night honors. In just four UFC fights, “Groovy Lando” has already earned the distinction three times.
