community news, UFC 216 free fight video: Watch Fabricio Werdum choke out Cain Velasquez at UFC 188

Before Fabricio Werdum steps into the Octagon to face Derrick Lewis at UFC 216 on Oct. 7, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see one of “Vai Cavalo’s” most dominant wins.

Back in 2015, Werdum was in the midst of his most impressive run under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner, winning five in a row going into his title unification match against 265-pound champion, Cain Velasquez.

Both men came out swinging, with Cain taking Werdum down early, though he wasn’t quick to follow the jiu-jitsu wizard to the ground. But, Werdum turned the tides in his favor, connecting shots on the champ, busting him up prior to the end of round one.

In what was a shocking site to see, Cain was breathing heavy after the first round, something not usually seen from the former champion, as he’s long been known for his outstanding cardio. Fabircio, though, proved he’s more than a ground fighter, keeping his striking game sharp throughout, wobbling Cain on multiple occasions.

In round three, though, Werdum went to his bread-and-butter, submitting Velasquez with an air-tight guillotine choke, earning him the heavyweight strap as undisputed champion. Unfortunately, Werdum lost his title in his first defense after getting knocked out by Stipe Miocic at UFC 198.

Fabricio has since gone 1-1 and will look to get back on he winning track when he faces off against heavy-handed Lewis in main card action.
