Those inside leg kicks will get you every time.
Renato Moicano started throwing inside leg kicks early in his UFC 223 main card featherweight matchup with Calvin Kattar on Saturday night in Brooklyn.
And while they don’t have an immediate affect on the fight, they add up over the course of the fight. Moicano got stronger as the fight went on and cruised to a unanimous decision victory. The judges’ scores at Barclays Center was a pair of 30-27s and a 29-28.
The opening round was fought at a methodical pace, with Kattar landing kicks and darting out of the way whenever Kattar came close to closing the distance. Moicano continued to pepper him with kicks in the second, which caused Kattar to switch stances. But Moicano started mixed up his strikes and landed clean punches as well.
Kattar was game in the third round, as the Boston native hung in there. But he never got any real offense untracked, as Moicano, likely knowing he was up on the cards, didn’t do anything risky as he cruised to the final horn.
Moicano (12-1-1), who had his first career loss last time out against Brian Ortega, improved to 4-1 in the UFC. Kattar (18-3) lost for the first time in the UFC and had a 10-fight overall win streak snapped.
