Most former champions become a highlight name on a younger fighter’s resume if they hang around long enough.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is no exception.
Evans was knocked out in just 53 seconds on Saturday night at UFC 225 by Anthony Smith in the featured Fight Pass prelim bout at United Center in Chicago.
A perfectly placed knee to the head in the clinch was all it took.
“I trained that my whole career,” Smith (29-13) said after winning for the fourth time in his past five fights.
Evans (19-8-1) has now lost five fights in a row, and seven of his past nine, with his last victory coming over Chael Sonnen at UFC 167.
Smith was gracious to the veteran in victory.
“I just want to give respect to Rashad Evans, that dude is a freakin’ legend,” Smith said.
