Jessica Andrade is doing exactly what she needs in order to get another shot at the UFC strawweight championship.
The 26-year old from Brazil put on a hellacious show in the co-feature bout of UFC 228 on Saturday night, delivering a one-hitter quitter of a knockout against a highly skilled opponent in Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
The time of the finish at American Airlines Center in Dallas was 1:58 of the opening round.
“I’m ready, I’m here, I’m ready to take the title,” Andrade told UFC president Dana White through an interpreter.
Andrade came out swinging from the outset, and landing, ripping into Kowalkiewicz and putting her on the defensive from the outset.
And while the native of Lodz, Poland, managed to get her head back into the fight, Andrade wasn’t about to slow down. She continued pressing forward and knocked her opponent out cold with a perfectly place right hand to the jaw.
With the victory, Andrade (19-6), who began her UFC career as an undersized bantamweight, imrpoved to 6-1 at strawweight and has won three in a row. Her only loss at 115 pounds was a decision to then-champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
“This is the work of my coach and my team,” Andrade said. “All props to them, if I do my job here it’s because of what they’ve done for me.”
Kowalkiewicz (12-3) had a two-fight win streak snapped.
