UFC 229 is almost here, and as usual, Embedded is here as well. The show that gives you an inside look at the marquee contestants on PPVs has issued the fourth episode for this weekend’s big show in Vegas, and it serves as a brief introduction to the fighters at the top of the card.
Michelle Waterson is at the UFC Performance Institute. She talks about her reputation as a small fighter for her division, and what advantages she brings. She takes a quick dip in the pool. Anthony and Sergio Pettis are working out in the hotel. This time the focus is on Sergio though, who faces Jussier Formiga.
Tony Ferguson’s coach Rashad Holloway says that El Cucuy is better than Anthony Pettis while they show him jumping rope. Derrick Lewis meets up with an Irish fan outside the hotel. Lewis then goes inside to a hat store, which is a ritual of his before fights, and he clowns around a bit.
Over at Conor McGregor’s house, his young son jumps in the car and spots a plane in the sky. Everyone else piles in to head over to the open workouts. There’s a big crowd, that runs in fast when the doors are opened. Megan Olivi is hosting. Tony Ferguson is first, and he gets a mixed reaction. He talks about the haters (ie. McGregor fans). Next up is Pettis, who gets the same sort of reaction. He’s amped up.
Next up is Khabib Nurmagomedov. He gets mostly boos from the pro-Irish crowd. There’s a Conor imitator in the crowd causing a scene. Khabib tells the crowd they’re going to like him in three days. They leave out the part where he talks about Conor’s grandfather.
Next up is the main event – McGregor. He records an interview for Conan O’Brien backstage, then comes out to a huge reaction. He plays with his son a bit, works out, then hypes the crowd with some words that only Conor can get away with. He launches the microphone in the air as he makes his exit.
And that’s it! UFC 229 goes down this Saturday night in Las Vegas.
