Aljamain Sterling has some harsh words for Henry Cejudo following his bantamweight title triumph at UFC 238.
After beating Marlon Moraes to win the bantamweight strap and become the promotion’s next two-division champ, ‘The Messenger’ called out Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber in his post-fight interview, vowing to become the UFC’s bantamweight ‘legend killer.’
Sterling, however, believes he is the rightful No. 1 contender and ordered Cejudo to step up and defend his title against a legitimate opponent.
“I was doing the facepalm emoji, shaking my head,” Sterling told TMZ when asked about Cejudo’s callout of Cruz and Faber. “He wants to be a legend killer? Find a legend who’s actually winning!” “Those guys haven’t won a fight in god knows how long and you have a #1 contender right here in front of you!”
“Henry, stop calling out these guys who are washed up and come for the real #1 contender, the real challenge.”
Sterling, who beat No.4-ranked Pedro Munhoz in a career-defining performance at UFC 238, also added the following crass comments about Cejudo.
“So, every time I go to the bathroom, I’m gonna take a Henry Ce-doo-doo while I think about winning that belt,” Sterling said. “So, I hope Henry’s ready for this.”
Although Sterling is clearly deserving of the next title shot, Olympic gold medallist Cejudo has bigger aspirations than defending his newly-acquired bantamweight strap against the next top contender. As well as wanting to fight the likes of Cruz and Faber, Cejudo wants to move up to featherweight to become the UFC’s first ever three-division champ. The 32-year-old is eyeing a featherweight title fight vs. Frankie Edgar should ‘The Answer’ pull off the upset against Max Holloway at UFC 240.
