Gokhan Saki and Khalil Rountree will get to throw down after all.
On Friday, UFC officials announced that Saki and Rountree will fight at UFC 226 on July 7. The two light heavyweights were originally scheduled for a meeting at UFC 219 this past December, but Saki was forced to withdraw after suffering a knee injury.
Saki, 34, sports a modest 1-1 pro MMA record, but has emerged as an intriguing talent at 205 pounds due to his extensive kickboxing background. He made a successful UFC debut last September with a highlight-reel first-round knockout of Henrique da Silva.
Rountree went on to fight replacement Michal Oleksiejczuk at UFC 219 and he lost a unanimous decision that was later overturned to a no-contest when Oleksiejczuk tested positive for clomiphene. Excluding that outcome, the 28-year-old Ultimate Fighter 23 finalist has won two straight fights by first-round KO and his overall record stands at 6-2.
UFC 226 is scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In the main event, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier challenges Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title.
