Frankie Edgar might be injured, but Max Holloway is still planning to fight at UFC 218.

UFC 218 suffered a setback yesterday when it was announced that former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar was forced to pull out of his headlining featherweight championship bout against Max Holloway due to injury.

Edgar, who is reportedly set to undergo surgery for a facial injury, described it as a ‘minor setback’ and plans to be back in the gym within the next six weeks.

Edgar’s withdrawal from UFC 218 leaves newly-crowned champ Holloway without an opponent, but ‘Blessed’ promised Detroit that he will still show up ‘no matter what’.

The 25-year-old talent posted a series of uplifting comments on his Twitter account.

It didn’t take long for Jose Aldo and Cub Swanson to react to news, either. Both men lost to Holloway but would like to rematch the Hawaiian at UFC 218.

Aldo, a former two-time featherweight champ, lost the title to Holloway at UFC 212 and is currently scheduled to rematch Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FOX: Lawler vs. dos Anjos on Dec. 16.

Swanson, who was submitted by Holloway in 2015, is on a four-fight win streak and is slated to face featherweight prospect Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Night 123 on Dec. 9.

The UFC has yet to release a statement on the matter, but expect a replacement to be announced in the coming days.

UFC 218, which also features a co-main event between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou, takes place next month, December 2 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
