community news, UFC champ Stipe Miocic to Anthony Joshua: ‘No excuses, let’s dance!’

With Wladimir Klitschko announcing his retirement, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is once again calling out boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

WBA and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs) will no longer be rematching Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs), as the Ukrainian announced his retirement from the sport. The fight was targeted for November 11th in Las Vegas, with Joshua making his United States debut.

With that showdown off the cards, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic wasted no time in calling out Joshua once again.

Miocic (17-2) doesn’t have a UFC title defense lined up, and there aren’t any plans for him to fight in the Octagon until his contract issues are sorted out. Nevertheless, Miocic has been calling out Joshua repeatedly for months, with Joshua offering up a “Who the fooooook is that guy?” response. Stipe’s boxing credentials include winning the Cleveland Golden Gloves championship, as well as an appearance in the national tournament, losing to current heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings. Miocic otherwise has no professional boxing experience.

As persistent as Miocic may be, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that negotiations are underway for the 27-year-old Brit to face Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev (25-1, 13 KOs), who is Joshua’s IBF mandatory challenger. The IBF granted an exception so that Joshua vs. Klitschko II could happen, but now it’s almost certain that we’ll see Joshua vs. Pulev in its place. It’s now expected that Joshua will fight Pulev at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
