Things didn’t play out too well for Mike Perry in his co-headlining bout against Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 139.
Not only was Perry submitted in the first round but, according to a post-fight tweet, ‘Platinum’ ‘suffered a broken arm.
Perry posted the tweet shortly after his loss to Cerrone.
UFC Fight Night 139 marked the first stoppage loss of Perry’s sixteen-fight career. The knockout artist had formerly dropped decision losses to Max Griffin, Santiago Ponzinibbio and Alan Jouban.
Cerrone, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, reminded fans that he is not to be taken lightly on the ground, submitting Perry with a slick armbar in the final seconds of the first round. The MMA veteran and fan favorite broke the record for the most amount of wins and finishes in the UFC, celebrating 21 victories and 15 career stoppages inside the Octagon.
After the fight, Cerrone announced that he will be returning to the lightweight division, calling out divisional champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the post-fight interview at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
Perry, 27, will likely be out of action for the foreseeable future.
