It was all Ryan Bader (22-5) in the main event at UFC Fight Night 100 last night (Sat., Nov. 19, 2016) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Bader, 33, turned in a dominant performance and defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (22-8) by technical knockout (TKO) in the third round inside Ginasio do Ibirapuera. The official time of the stoppage came at 3:51 of round three.
“Darth” landed takedowns whenever he wanted to, used his wrestling to control Nogueira on the ground and a steady diet of punches to end it.
In the opening two minutes of the fight, the two exchanged punches, but when Nogueira landed a couple of clean ones, Bader immediately went in on a takedown and took the fight to the mat. From there, Bader trapped the left arm of “Lil Nog” and began wailing away with big right hands as well as elbows. The No.4-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight cradled the leg of Nogueira to maintain control and rained down more elbows. Bader eventually ended up in side control as the round ended.
The crowd was reduced to a hush after one witnessing one of their heroes get dominated for the opening five minutes of the main event.
Bader went right back to what worked in the opening frame and landed another takedown. Nogueira popped back up only to be dragged down once again. Bader maintained heavy top pressure inside the half guard of Nogueira and began picking his shots. In a scramble, Bader took the back of the Brazilian fighting icon and looked to have a rear-naked choke (without hooks in) all but sealed. However, Nogueira managed to escape. Bader landed several more big punches from top position before the second round came to a close.
