Thomas Almeida (22-1) destroyed Albert Morales (6-1-1) at UFC Fight Night 100 earlier tonight (November 19, 2016) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Almeida, 25, scored a technical knockout victory over Morales inside Ginasio do Ibirapuera after bombarding him with an unanswered and endless stream of punches. The loss was the first of Morales’ career. The official time of the stoppage came at 1:37 of round two.
The opening round was fast paced and frenetic. Both fighters circled one another and threw wildly. It was Almeida who landed struck first, landing a big punch, which rocked Morales. The No.11-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight poured it on and looked to be close to finishing Morales off, but “The Warrior” was able to shoot in on a desperate takedown to shake off the cobwebs. Before the round was over, Morales landed a few big punches of his own, which briefly hurt Almeida.
In the second, Almeida rocked Morlaes once more, but this time he dismantled him against the fence with a barrage of strikes. A left hook to the liver put the nail in the coffin, as referee Eduardo Herdy stepped in to call it a day after Morales crumpled to the canvas.
It was another display of what makes Almeida one of the most exciting and dangerous fighters in the 135-pound division. Almedia, who suffered his first career loss to Cody Garbrandt back in May, bounces back into the win column after an emphatic finish. He improves to 5-1 in UFC. Meanwhile, Morales falls to 0-1-1 since making his debut in September.
