This shouldn’t take long!
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight hitters take Halifax this Sunday evening (Feb. 19, 2017) as Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne lock horns inside Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 105, which will air live and free on FOX Sports 1. In addition, Johny Hendricks makes his Middleweight debut against fellow slugger Hector Lombard and Featherweight prospect Gavin Tucker makes his Octagon debut against Sam Sicilia.
Sunday being the holiest of days, it is also the most fun day on which to gamble. Read on, fellow sinners:
What Went Wrong At UFC 208:
Nothing, for once. Aside from Glover Teixeira and Wilson Reis having slightly more difficulty than anticipated, the last event went off without a hitch. Now all that’s left to do is wait for the other shoe to drop.
UFC Fight Night 105 Odds For The Undercard:
Santiago Ponzinibbio (-370) vs. Nordine Taleb (+280)
Carla Esparza (-280) vs. Randa Markos (+240)
Aiemann Zahabi (-220) vs. Reginaldo Vieira (+180)
Thiago Santos (-170) vs. Jack Marshman (+150)
Gerald Meerschaert (-300) vs. Ryan Janes (+250)
Thoughts: Carla Esparza’s the go-to for this undercard even at -280. Her wrestling is virtually unmatched in the division aside from Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha, certainly more than enough to overpower the talented-but-inconsistent Randa Markos. Limited as she is on the feet, Esparza’s takedowns are simply too potent to allow Markos any sort of momentum. Go big on “Cookie Monster.”
Sadly, the bookies share my faith in Santiago Ponzinibbio, but there’s still some blood to be squeezed out of this stone. In addition to being the faster, smoother and more powerful striker, he’s proven himself against legitimately good Welterweight competition such as like Sean Strickland and Zak Cummings. Taleb’s best wins, by contrast, are a split decision over a green Jingliang Li and his knockout of perennial disappointment Erick Silva. “Gente Boa’s” going to do work … bank on it.
UFC Fight Night 105 Odds For The Main Card:
Derrick Lewis (-115) vs. Travis Browne (-105)
Hector Lombard (-150) vs. Johny Hendricks (+130)
Gavin Tucker (-155) vs. Sam Sicilia (+135)
Cezar Ferreira (-125) vs. Elias Theodorou (+105)
Sara McMann (-500) vs. Gina Mazany (+400)
Paul Felder (-375) vs. Alessandro Ricci (+313)
Thoughts: Betting on debutants is generally ill-advised. Well, prepared to be ill-advised, because Tucker is going to wreck Sicilia. This recommendation is based less on a deep understanding of Tucker’s game, which I’ll admit I lack, and more on the fact that Sicilia is just not a good fighter. He’s been stopped five times in UFC, often in one-sided fashion, and he shows no sign of improving his lingering flaws. Tucker looked beastly in what little tape I could scrounge up; therefore, invest in the future.
UFC Fight Night 105 Best Bets:
- Parlay — Carla Esparza and Santiago Ponzinibbio: Bet $69 to make $50
- Parlay — Carla Esparza and Gavin Tucker: Bet $40 to make $49.20
