UFC Fight Night 105 predictions, preview, and analysis

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to FOX Sports 1 this Sunday night (Feb. 19, 2017) for its UFC Fight Night 105: “Lewis vs. Browne”mixed martial arts (MMA) event, locked and loaded for Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Leading the charge will be heavyweight sluggers Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne, in a 265-pound showdown that may produce the next division title contender. Elsewhere on the card, former UFC 170-pound champion Johny Hendricks jumps up to middleweight to challenge power puncher Hector Lombard.

Before we break down the six-fight main card, shock out what the esteemed Patty Stumber had to say about the UFC Fight Night 105 “Prelims” bout here and here. Odds and betting lines for UFC “Halifax” can be located here.

Now then, let’s get to it.

265 lbs.: Derrick “Black Beast” Lewis (17-4) vs. Travis “Hapa” Browne (18-5-1)

Nostradumbass predicts: This pairing feels right, as Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne are separated by one spot in the official rankings. “The Black Beast” has been more impressive as of late — at least in terms of wins and losses — but we have to approach that record with some perspective.

Browne lost four fights over the past three years fighting top-ranked opponents like Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, and Andrei Arlovski, three former UFC heavyweight champions.

Imagine flipping those records?

I’m sure “Hapa” would also beat Viktor Pesta, Damian Grabowski, and Shamil Abdurakhimov, like Lewis did, but would “Black Beast” be able to turn away Velasquez, Werdum, and Arlovski?

Maybe, maybe not.

It’s no secret that Browne has devolved as a fighter since switching to Glendale MMA, to be closer to his main squeeze. Gone is the complete toolbox and in its place is a shitty boxer who relies way too much on his size.

For this match up, we have to determine if he still has his instincts. Trying to out-punch Lewis is a fool’s errand, so I don’t expect Browne to turn this into a firefight. But
