UFC Fight Night 110: Derrick Lewis, ‘Fighter To Watch’ tonight in Auckland

Derrick Lewis will look to improve his current heavyweight win streak to seven later tonight (Sat., June 10, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 110 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, when he takes on veteran knockout artist Mark Hunt.

The work that Lewis has put into the division over the past two years has been incredible. Not only has “Black Beast” provided one of the best win streaks a fighter could hope for in a tumultuous weight class like heavyweight, but the boxing prodigy has recorded five knockouts along the way. Lewis has obviously had his fair share of close calls inside of the Octagon during his win streak, but the 32-year-old has looked dominant nonetheless.

As Lewis gears up for another headlining act at UFC Fight Night 110, he looks to prove that he’s ready for a shot at current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Defeating Hunt isn’t the biggest feather Lewis could stuff in his career cap, but it’s a pretty damn good start. In fact, the only fighters that have beaten “Super Samoan” inside of the Octagon over the past five years have challenged for a UFC title at one point or another (Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, Junior dos Santos, and Miocic). That’s a list of fighters that Lewis will gladly join this weekend in New Zealand.

Since there is so much at stake for Lewis and his thriving heavyweight win streak, “Black Beast” will undoubtedly be the “Fighter to Watch” tonight at UFC Fight Night 110. Fight fans are hoping that Lewis can continue to win fights with his punching power as he ascends the divisional ladder, but things are only going to get tougher from here on out.

The heavyweight title picture is in need of both fresh blood and exciting finishes, which is exactly what Lewis has been providing since he entered the promotion back in 2014. Having “Black Beast” enter the heavyweight elite and push for a title shot by the end of the year is exactly what the doctor ordered. If he can wipe Hunt off the Auckland map later this evening, Lewis might find himself throwing down with a champ from Ohio.
