Just a few weeks ago, “Da Last Samurai” was ecstatic to have learned his Flyweight battle against Paddy Holohan this past Saturday night (October 24, 2015) would open up the UFC Fight Night 76 main card live on Fight Pass in front of an uproarious crowd at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
Considering Smolka’s last two UFC appearances came on the “Prelims,” the opportunity to fight on the main card against a hometown favorite was clearly going to be the biggest test of his young and blossoming career.
Then everything changed in a matter of days.
First it was Stipe Miocic bowing out of his scheduled co-main event against Ben Rothwell due to an injury. Suddenly, Smolka’s fight was promoted to the co-main event, only adding to the immense pressure for the Hawaiian.
