Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight scrappers Antonio Carlos Junior and Dan Kelly threw down last night (March 19, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 85 inside Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia.

A former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): “Brazil” winner, Carlos Junior entered this bout with plenty of expectations on his shoulders. Last night, the young Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace and giant Middleweight was looking to run through his opponent and announce himself as a prospect.

On the other hand, Kelly was simply fighting for his position on the roster. As a massive underdog, Kelly had an opportunity to really surprise some people and excite the Australian audience.

He certainly was successful in both aspects.

After touching his opponent with a body kick, Carlos Junior quickly scored a takedown and moved into back mount without much issue. This was pretty much the worst case scenario for Kelly, who had a jiu-jitsu world champion on his back with far too much time left.

Despite his predicament, Kelly managed to prevent the choke from slipping under his chin. He took some shots in the process and never escaped the position, but he did survive the round.

Carlos Junior even attacked with a deep arm bar to end the round, but Kelly was still around for the second.

Kelly started the second round with far more success, as he scored in some of the exchanges and managed to sprawl on a few of his opponent’s takedown attempts. He even managed to take top position for a few moments and land some hard strikes in the process.
