UFC Fight Night 86: Rothwell vs. dos Santos marked the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s debut event in Croatia. The event took place on Sunday, April 10, in Zagreb.
With five heavyweight bouts on the card, it was certainly one of the promotion’s heaviest events ever, which seemed to go over well with the Croatian crowd, which turned out in droves to sell out Zagreb Arena.
“It’s taken us a long time to get to Croatia, but what a fantastic crowd, what a fantastic city,” said James Elliott, the UFC’s Vice President and General Manager of Europe, Middle East, and Africa. “This, for those that don’t know, is our fifth consecutive sellout in the region.”
UFC Fight Night 86 drew 13,177 fans, for a gate totaling $549,000 U.S.

The main event featured two of the UFC’s top big men, both trying to get into the title picture.
It would be former champion Junior dos Santos that came out on top, as he worked Ben Rothwell‘s body hard to slow the bigger man down. He then went upstairs, leaving Rothwell’s face a bloody, swollen mess by the end of the fight.
The victory was a major step back towards title contention for dos Santos, who has alternated betweens wins and losses over his past seven fights.
