The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns home to Las Vegas for its Memorial Day Weekend event, UFC Fight Night 88: Almeida vs. Garbrandt. The special Sunday fight card features rising bantamweight stars Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt in a five-round main event.
To make everything official, the fighters first had to step on the scale Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, the same venue where the fights will take place on Sunday.
Almedia enters the headliner looking to force his way into title contention. Having a spotless 21-0 record heading into the fight, this is the rising Brazilian star’s chance to shine in the spotlight.
Also undefeated, but with only eight fights to his professional resume, Garbrandt is looking to steal the spotlight from Almeida and put his name amongst those at the top of the division.
UFC Fight Night 88 is built upon more than the main event, however, as former bantamweight champion Renan Barao makes his UFC featherweight debut in the co-headliner. He’ll step in against Jeremy Stephens to try and make an immediate name for himself in his new division.
The FOX Sports 1 prelims feature an exciting women’s bantamweight bout, as former Olympian Sara McMann faces Jessica Eye, while another pair of impressive bantamweights – Aljamain Sterling and Bryan Caraway – are the featured fight on the UFC Fight Pass prelims.
