Following both UFC Fight Night 90 and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 23 Finale events, MMAmania.com ponders what is next for Eddie Alvarez and Joanna Jedrzejczyk after their victories the past two nights (July 7 & 8, 2016) on UFC Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1 inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In a historic weekend for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), four titles are on the line in a span of just three days, featuring some of the best talents in mixed martial arts (MMA).
The first title was contended for on Thursday night (July 7, 2016), as UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos took on “The Underground King” and former Bellator Champion Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC Fight Night 90.
In an epic one round affair, Alvarez blasted the champion with a ferocious combination of punches to achieve his lifetime goal of becoming a UFC Champion.
Alvarez’s road to UFC gold is nothing short of incredible, as the Philadelphia native fought in nearly every major promotion outside the UFC, earning titles in each in incredibly impressive fashion.
Of course, Alvarez had his detractors and doubters, noting his accomplishments were meaningless without testing his skill set against the best Lightweights inside the Octagon.
After the former Bellator kingpin was forced to sit in contractual purgatory for over a year, he finally got his chance to fight under UFC’s banner, and was thrown to the wolves against Donald Cerrone.
After stumbling in his debut, victories over Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis earned him the shot against Rafael Dos Anjos, and he didn’t waste any time to put the UFC champ away in the first.
What a run.
