It doesn’t get much more dominant than the performance Thales Leites (26-6) turned in at UFC Fight Night 92 earlier tonight (Sat. August 6, 2016). Leites, 34, absolutely dominated Chris Camozzi (24-11) for the entirety of their Middleweight bout before submitting him via rear-naked choke inside Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. Leites put on a grappling clinic and completely neutralized Camozzi, leaving him without answers and on the defensive throughout the bout.
The official time of the stoppage came at 2:58 of the third round.
Leites went after a takedown early and remained persistent, lacing his leg around Camozzi’s and repeatedly dragging him to the canvas. The Brazilian took the back of Camozzi while both were standing along the fence and began to hunt for a rear-naked choke. Camozzi did a nice job of hand fighting, but still could not shake the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt off of his back.
The No.12-ranked UFC Middleweight secured a body triangle and began to pepper Camozzi with punches while continuing to look for the rear-naked choke submission. Camozzi continued to hand fight to avoid the choke, but ate several more punches before the round ended.
Leites wasted no time in the second and went in on a single-leg takedown and took Camozzi down once again. Leites began looking to pass the butterfly guard of Camozzi and did so, moving to side control. Camozzi escaped and got back to his feet for a brief second, but Leites pulled him back to the floor again. From there, Leites took the back of Camozzi and secured a body triangle and began to hunt for a rear-naked choke just like he did in the opening frame. The Colorado-based fighter tried to escape, but still couldn’t shake off Leites and ate more punches until the round’s conclusion.
