Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight rivals Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall rematched last night (Nov. 19, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 99 inside the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Island.
After his shocking upset loss to Hall, Mousasi put his nose to the grindstone and picked up a trio of quality victories. Now a top five athlete at 185 lbs., Mousasi was looking to extend his win streak and avenge his prior loss. Whereas Mousasi climbed even higher since their first bout, Hall came up short in his next two bouts. This was a huge match up for Hall, as it really determined where his career was heading.
As expected, Mousasi went into the bout very patiently. The veteran walked his opponent down, chopping at his opponent with sudden low kicks and long jabs. He snapped his opponent’s head back a couple times, and a sneaky stance-shift left hook landed clean. To his credit, Hall did a nice job of keeping range and stayed active with kicks, landing a couple nice spin kicks. With about a minute remaining, Mousasi ducked down into a double leg and drove Hall into the fence. From there, he moved up into the clinch and powered his foe into the mat.
Hall turned his back in an attempt to stand, and Mousasi wrapped up his wrist and flattened him out. From that position, Hall could do little to defend himself, and Mousasi quickly smashed him for a technical knockout stoppage. This was a beautiful performance by “The Armenian Assassin.” He was out-landing and largely nullifying his opponent on the feet, and his takedown was set up very well. Then, once on the mat, Mousasi completely overwhelmed his opponent in a very short amount of time.
