UFC recently announced that the upcoming UFC Fight Night: Alovski vs. Barnett will air on the free to air channel ProSieben MAXX. This will be the first time in history a UFC event will be made available on free to air television in Germany.
ProSieben MAXX will air the highlights of the soldout event taking place at the Barclarycard Arena in Hamburg, starting at 1:00 a.m. CEST on the morning of Sunday, September 4. The channel, part of the ProSiebenSat1 group, is available to 85% of German households via cable, satellite, DVB-T and IPTV, as well as in Austria and Switzerland.
This announcement comes just over a year since the monumental overturn of the broadcast ban inflicted by the Bavarian Authority of New Media (BLM). UFC has since gone from strength to strength in Germany, with the latest Hamburg event selling out in rapid speed, demonstrating that there is a strong and passionate fan base in Germany.
UFC Fight Night: Arlovski vs. Barnett will see two former UFC heavyweight champions collide as No. No.6 ranked Andrei Arlovski (25-12, 1NC) will take on No.9 ranked Josh Barnett (34-8). In the co-main event, two of Europe’s biggest names in the light heavyweight division will meet as No.3 ranked Swede Alexander Gustafsson (16-4) takes on Poland’s Jan Blachowicz (19-5).
