Featherweight Godofredo Pepey had to pull out from this Saturday’s card due to a recurring orbital fracture.
Godofredo Pepey won’t be able to fight in his hometown of Fortaleza on Saturday night. He was scheduled to face Kyle Bochniak in a featherweight bout for the FS1 card. As the TUF Brazil 1 runner-up explained on his Instagram, he was forced to pull out of the card after suffering an orbital fracture, and it was not his first time dealing with the injury.
“Good morning, guys. Unfortunately, I’m out of UFC Fortaleza because of an orbital fracutre. I have had this same fracture due to years of sparring, but I kept training as usual. This time around, the doctors didn’t let me continue and for my own well being, I was unauthorized to fight. I’ll be ready to fight again in a couple of weeks and ready to put on an excellent fight for all of you. Maximum respect for all who believe in me.”
Godofredo Pepey submitted Mike De La Torre with a rear-naked choke, in his last outing. Before that, he dropped an unanimous decision to Darren Elkins in July 2016.
UFC Fortaleza will happen on Saturday, March 11 and will feature a clash of middleweights in its main event, as Vitor Belfort takes on Kelvin Gastelum. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for live coverage on fight night.
