Josh Burkman’s submission defeat vs. Michel Prazeres at UFC Fortaleza represented the final fight of his MMA career.
It was a quick and brutally lopsided defeat for lightweight Josh Burkman, who ate a series of punches from Michel Prazeres before ultimately tapping out to a north-south choke. The loss marked Burkman’s fifth in his last six fights, and evidently it doubled as the final bout of Burkman’s long career.
During the post-fight interview with Prazeres, UFC analyst Brian Stann told the audience that Burkman left his gloves in the Octagon and retired in the cage. According to Stann, Burkman exited before he could interview him.
Burkman ends his career with a record of 28-15 (1 NC), with 17 of those fights taking place under the UFC banner. He was a cast member on season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter, defeating Melvin Guillard before being replaced by Jason Von Flue after sustaining an arm injury. Perhaps his most notable win came in 2013, when he dropped and choked out Jon Fitch in just 41 seconds at World Series of Fighting 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fitch had previously submitted him in the UFC back in 2006, and Burkman was able to even the score in memorable fashion.
Other notable victories for Burkman include a KO of Aaron Simpson, a slam finish of Sammy Morgan, and a unanimous decision nod vs. Josh Neer.
