UFC ‘Halifax’ preview: Derrick Lewis is not pretty, but he’ll knock your head off

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis wants you, the fussy mixed martial arts (MMA) fan, to lower your expectations when he takes center stage this weekend on FOX Sports 1.

That’s because “Black Beast” can’t be bothered with silly little details like nuance and technique. Not when he can wind up like Super Macho Man and uncork the scariest right hand in the 265-pound division.

Well, second scariest.

“I’m in the heavyweight division and it only takes one punch,” Lewis said. “I’m a brawler, so I’m not gonna go out there with the prettiest kicks and the prettiest punches or nothing like that, I’m going in there to try to knock your head off, swinging and banging.”

It’s hard to argue with the results.

Lewis (17-5) has 15 knockouts in 17 wins, a staggering 88-percent knockout rate. “Black Beast” — who may have the funniest social media game in combat sports — has also been stopped twice himself but hey, live by the sword, die by the sword.

That could be a factor when Lewis headlines the UFC Fight Night 105 event this Sunday night (Feb. 19, 2017) inside Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, against crafty heavyweight contender Travis Browne.

Simply put: Don’t blink.
