UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem openly discusses change in body weight

There aren’t too many Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contenders more deserving of a divisional title shot than Dutch kickboxer Alistair Overeem.

The 35-year-old Heavyweight destroyer has finished the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Junior dos Santos, and Stefan Struve, en route to capturing a four-fight win streak. Considering Overeem is already one of the most popular draws in mixed martial arts (MMA) today, his immediate future should incorporate some sort of chance to hoist UFC gold.

But despite his undeniable results inside of the Octagon, there are always going to be critics who pick apart the way “The Reem” looks. After all, he failed a pre-fight drug test back in 2012 for elevated levels of testosterone.

In a recent social media post, Overeem dispelled any concerns regarding his body weight:

Weigh in Pic I get a lot of ‘you’ve lost weight’, ‘you look small’ etc etc… Fighting in the K1 days it was easy to bulk up, cos the rounds were 3min and there were only 3 of them. Nowadays it’s 5 rounds of 5min, with… Wrestling, clinching, takedowns, being taken down, standing back up and the whole shebang. It is funny tho.. As before I would want to be as strong as possible but now it has changed to be as small as possible. #Cardioiskey #fastandfurious and bytheway, I think it’s safe to say – I’m still whooping strong 244lbs = 111kg

It’s safe to say that Overeem is happy with the way his body is developing into his mid-30s. For what it’s worth, he has looked much better inside of the cage without having to carry around nearly 20 more pounds of muscle.
