Alexa Grasso defeated Randa Markos by split decision in the UFC Mexico City co-main event.
Top UFC strawweights were on display in the UFC Fight Night: Pettis vs. Moreno co-main event, as Alexa Grasso picked up the split decision over the #9 Randa Markos in a back and forth affair. There was no feeling out process to start the strawweight co-main event, as both fighters went right at one another. Markos let her hands fly a bit, landing at a descent clip. Grasso would respond with clean kicks to both the leg and the body to slow the pace of Markos a bit. Grasso connected with a beautiful flurry that seemed to stun her opponent, which led to a botched head and arm throw from Markos. Grasso would shove Markos up against the cage, controlling her foe towards the end of the round.
Grasso was able to thwart an early takedown attempt from Markos, and briefly stuffed her opponent up against the cage before disengaging. Markos caught a kick that earned her top position at the midpoint of the second frame, but Grasso was able to make it back to her feet. Markos found top position again, but Grasso was quick to reverse, before Markos reversed the position yet again. While in full mount, Markos scored with some mean elbows, and maintained top position for the remainder of the round. Markos started the 3rd round by letting her hands go, before running over Grasso with a double leg takedown, and falling into full guard. Grasso would kick away her opponent to return to her feet, and started scoring with her boxing as the final bell was sounded.
