In case you forgot, Glover Teixeira can still hit like a truck.
Rashad Evans found that out the hard way Saturday night in Tampa.
Teixeira needed just 1:48 to knock Evans out cold in the main event of UFC on FOX 19. A gigantic left hand to the jaw dropped Evans to his knees, then a right hand flush to the face caused Evans to face plant.
“I go to finish,” the 36-year old Teixeira said. “This fight is five rounds, I didn’t want to stand and do footwork, I wanted to finish. I’m like Mike Tyson, taking care of business.”
Teixeira was originally scheduled to fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, who had to drop out of the bout, one of several changes to the card. Teixeira and Evans was elevated to the main event when the original main, Kahbib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferugson, also dropped out.
“I expect a great Rashad, I want to thank him,” Teixeira said. “I was supposed to fight Shogun and [Evans] accepted five rounds.”
Teixeira (25-4) won his third straight fight and had his 22d career finish.
Evans (19-5-1), the former UFC light heavyweight champ, has now dropped two in a row and four of his last six. It was the first time he’d been finished since UFC 98 in 2009, when he lost his title against Lyoto Machida. His last win was over Chael Sonnen at UFC 167.
