Third-ranked women’s strawweight Rose Namajunas avenged a 2013 loss to fourth-ranked Tecia Torres in the UFC on FOX 19 co-main event on Saturday.
The two previously fought at Invicta FC 6 with Torres defeating Namajunas by unanimous decision. On Saturday, the opposite happened.
Namajunas used her reach advantage and established her jab in the opening round while Torres countered with leg kicks. Midway through the first round, the two ladies clinched and Torres landed a left hook that made Namajunas’ legs buckle. Late in the round, Namajunas secured a takedown but was unable to inflict much damage.
Torres started mixing in a front sidekick and landed combinations in the second frame. As the round was nearing its end, Namajunas delivered a solid combination.

Heading into the final round, Torres’ corner told her that she needed a big round. She came out more aggressive and delivered leg kicks that slowed Namajunas down. Late in the frame, Namajunas put Torres on her back but did little with it.
After fifteen minutes of fighting, all three judges scored the fight for Namajunas by unanimous decision. With the victory, Namajunas extended her winning streak to three consecutive fights, including finishes over Angela Hill and Paige VanZant. For Torres, it was the first time she’d tasted defeat outside of her appearance on The Ultimate Fighter 20 in 2014.
