“Pepey’s” three-fight winning streak looks good and they were undoubtedly legitimate victories, but he didn’t outclass any of them; he caught them. I know that that term is often used dismissively to diminish a fighter’s accomplishments and am not using it as such. Rather, I mean to say that he didn’t consistently demonstrate superiority in those fights. Elkins is an enormously difficult man to “catch,” one who’s only been submitted by Charles Oliveira and whose only knockout loss in the last seven years came against Chad Mendes.
