UFC on FOX 21’s Anthony Pettis hopes to become UFC’s next two-division champion after surviving ‘rough patch’

Anthony Pettis put a stop to a three fight-losing streak by forcing Charles Oliveira to tap in round three of his first-ever Featherweight fight at UFC on Fox 21 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

And after picking up a much-needed win, not only did “Showtime” breathe a huge sigh of relief, but also got a big boost of confidence, as he aims to become the promotion’s third man to win two titles in two different divisions.

And he’s ready to face whatever challenge it takes to get him there.

“I had a rough patch – three fights in a row, I wasn’t used to that,” Pettis said during the post-fight news conference (video replay here) via MMA Junkie. “I had two losses my entire career then going three back-to-back, I had some soul searching to do. What drives me? What makes me want to do this? I went through a lot of stuff. I have to thank my family, my girlfriend. Everyone around me that just kept me focused and just made me keep pushing. We pushed through, we got a new division, a new goal – two division champ – and that’s what I’ve set out to do.”

Having already tasted gold at Lightweight, Pettis coughed up his 155-pound strap to Rafael dos Anjos in his first-ever title defense. After that, it was all downhill, dropping two more to Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza.

But now that he’s back in the win column, he’s eager to get right back in the swing of things in his new division. And while he knows he has a ways to go before he gets a shot at the strap, he’s ready to take on any top contender that speeds up his route.
