Valentina Shevchenko will try to make good on her world-class striking later tonight (Sat., Jan. 28, 2017) at UFC on FOX 23 live on FOX from inside Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, as she takes on rising title threat Julianna Pena. The two women’s bantamweight fighters are on a roll and essentially one win away from a shot at champion Amanda Nunes. In the co-main event, Donald Cerrone will look to make it 5-0 as a welterweight when he takes on fellow lightweight defector and proven striker Jorge Masvidal.

But before the premier bouts get underway on FOX starting at 8:00 p.m. ET, UFC on FOX 23’s preliminary action will go down on Fight Pass starting at 5:00 p.m. ET and FOX Sports 1 starting at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Find out what happened right here as the UFC on FOX 23 undercard recaps roll in real-time:

Nate Marquardt vs. Sam Alvey

Raphael Assunção vs. Aljamain Sterling

Bobby Nash vs. Li Jingliang

Luis Henrique da Silva vs. Jordan Johnson

Eric Spicely vs. Alessio Di Chirico

Marcos Rogério de Lima vs. Jeremy Kimball

Alexandre Pantoja vs. Eric Shelton

Jason Gonzalez vs. J.C. Cottrell

In the opening bout of the evening, talented lightweight youngster Gonzalez (11-3) looked to get back into the win column when he met roofer-turned-fighter Cottrell (17-5). It was Gonzalez who pressured early with head kicks and timely counters before Cottrell gained control with a quick takedown. Cottrell wasn’t able to do much in top position as Gonzalez utilized a leg lock attempt to keep the wrestler at bay. When Cottrell got back to his feet Gonzalez grabbed his neck and sunk in a tight D’Arce choke. Cottrell had nowhere to go from there and was forced to tap late into the first round.
