Fouls that may or may not have actually been fouls, awkward standup exchanges, occasional flurries of excitement.
That could stand as an evergreen description of Bobby Green’s fights, win or lose, and his UFC on FOX 24 lightweight matchup with Rashid Magomdeov was no different.
After 15 minutes of back-and-forth, mostly standing exchanges, Magomedov earned a split decision, taking two out of three 29-28 scores from the judges in Kansas City.
The opening round featured Green’s usual mix of unorthodox movements and leg kicks, while Magomedov pressed forward and landed more often than not, but nothing with enough power to throw Green off his game.
Magomedov also landed a low blow of a kick in the first round, for which he wasn’t penalized. In the second, Green sked for timeout from what he believed was an eye poke, and got it, from Mario Yamasaki, but replays showed Magomedov landed a clean punch.
The second round mimicked the first and third mimicked the first two at a slower pace, as Green bobbed and weaved and Magomedov landed enough to win on points.
Magomedov improved to 20-2 in his career and has won five of his past six fights. Green (23-8), who had fought just once in the past two and a half years, dropped to 23-8.
